Self-Progress Report # 1

The main objective of my practicum is the collection and creation of GeoGebra investigations and demonstrations as well as the creation (and collection) of some on-line videos to support them. GeoGebra is an interactive geometry, algebra, and calculus application, intended for teachers and students.

These activities will be used to teach functions (see unit aims here) to secondary school students in different classroom situations. I will be using them with my own students at LAS in Switzerland, but I will also gather feedback from other teachers collaborating in the project.

It is my intention in this practicum that some of my students use my GeoGebra dynamic worksheets to make conjectures and prove mathematical theorems in functions. I also plan to collaborate with other teachers who will be sending me their feedback about the activities. I will also use some other teacher’s activities and collaborate with them that way.

In the first few weeks of this project I have managed to get everything set up, communicating the course professor my intentions early in the course (in fact, even before the course started).  I also communicated this to the mathematics department in my school (where one other teacher is collaborating) and with other mathematic departments in other schools.

I also set up a blog for this course, very recently converted into a website & blog, to accommodate the course professor request.

I am about to finish my own set of GeoGebra dynamic worksheets for the target unit (functions) and will soon be uploading them on different educational networks (including GeoGebra Tube, the specialized GeoGebra educational network)

I am really enjoying the work I do for this practicum, though I find it very time consuming. I intend to publish all my work results so that it can be easily accessed. I hope that doing this I might manage to spend at least 75% of my invested time in this course doing productive work, though I fear I might need more than 25% of the time to talk about what I am doing, as this seems to be highly valued. My main struggle in this practicum seems to be to show of the work I do as I prefer to spend more time doing the work than reporting what it is done.

Looking forward to my ongoing learning,
